De wilg bloeit vroeg in het voorjaar met ‘katjes’, nog voordat het eerste groene blad verschijnt. Deze zijn meestal, wit, grijs of geel maar er zijn ook veredelde cultivars met andere kleuren zoals onze roze soort. De katjes zijn vanwege de vroege verschijning zeer populair bij bijen en vlinders. The willow blooms early in spring with ‘catkins’ even before the first green leaves appear. These are usually, white, grey or yellow but there are also improved cultivars with other colours such as our pink variety. The catkins are very popular with bees and butterflies because of their early appearance. Salix is sold both solitary and in bunch.
